América and Junior, to the Copa Sudamericana, after the Copa Libertadores

America from Cali and Junior from Barranquilla they said goodbye to the South American Conmebol Cup not being able to win this Tuesday, May 25, in their respective matches on the last date of the group stage. In this way, ‘scarlatas’ and ‘rojiblancos’ were relegated to contest the Copa Conmebol Sudamericana from the round of 16 phase.

Valle del Cauca finished in third place in group H with four points after a victory, a draw and four defeats with five goals in favor and nine against.

On the other hand, the Barranquilla ended the participation with seven units in zone D with a win, four tied games and six lost games with six goals in favor and six against.

On the last day of the Copa Libertadores, both teams had the obligation to win to qualify for the round of 16 of the Copa Conmebol Libertadores, but América fell 1-0 on their visit to Cerro Porteño, while Junior drew 0-0 with Independiente Santa Fe.

In this way, the ‘scarlets’ will return to the South American Cup, a contest in which they participated in 2018.

On the other hand, Junior will play for as he has done in 2004, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020. In his last appearance he lost in the quarterfinals to Coquimbo Unido of Chile.

América and Junior will meet their rivals at the end of the group stage when Conmebol carries out the respective draw.
