BEAUTIFUL, THEY ARE.– The Sonora table tennis team had a great participation in the Macroregional de la Zona, achieving its ranking of 19 of the 20 athletes who competed this weekend in Tijuana for the pass to the Conade 2021 National Games.

The region’s contest included the participation of Baja California, Baja California Sur, Durango, Sinaloa and Sonora, while Chihuahua led only its senior team, all of them seeking to overcome the first team qualification phase.

Sonora was represented in the men’s and women’s branches in the Sub 15 and Sub 19 categories, and one more in the women’s Sub 21. In case of not advancing by teams, individual playoffs would be played, but the good performance of the Red Wave was enough for them. to advance to the final duels that ensured that for the first time the entity is represented with five teams at the National Games.

Baja California, the colossus of the area, kept the Sonora at bay relegating them to second place in both branches of the Sub 15 and Sub 19, while the selective from Chihuahua did the same against the women’s Sub 21.

For his part, the Guayaquil Reynaldo Rodríguez got his individual pass in the Under 21 category by winning the final, defeating his rival from Baja California 3 sets to 2.

Now, the Sonorans will have a month of preparation prior to the national competition that will be held in Guadalajara from June 24 to 30.

We will begin to coordinate with weekly training sessions, we will make a logically competitive preparation, training a lot with the teams and polishing all types of scenarios in which we will have participation there. First they will be in teams, then doubles and we close with individual events”, Said Gabriel Calderón, coach of the Sonoran players.

He also highlighted the possibility that educational institutions open their facilities so that tennis players can carry out a training process with the appropriate equipment, taking the necessary steps to carry out a concentration a week before the national one.

That is going to help us a lot because we are going to be able to have the athletes relatively concentrated all together, not like what we were doing before we trained them individually each at home. We hope that these institutions in both Cajeme and Guaymas can be opened, with their proper health measures”.
