The hockey players defeated Denmark, and Russia helped them advance

Riga – The Czech hockey players defeated Denmark 2: 1 at the World Championships in Riga after separate raids and moved the table from 10 matches to sixth place in the table with 10 points. The winning goal in the shootout was scored by Filip Chytil. After the evening victory of Russia over Sweden 3: 2 after separate raids, the charges of coach Filip Pešán were sure to participate in the quarterfinals.

In Tuesday’s final performance in group A against Slovakia (15:15 CEST), in the event of a win for three points, they can still move in order. Either in third place, or in the case of the loss of Switzerland to Great Britain in the basic playing time, also in second place. But if the British are not surprised, the Czechs will go to Finland or the USA in Thursday’s quarterfinals.

The Danes led from the 4th minute thanks to a power play by gunner Nicklas Jensen. The Czechs equalized in 45:23 thanks to Dominik Kubalík. Although he scored 23 seconds before the end of the defender Filip Hronek, the goal was not paid due to Kubalík’s offside.

“We already had to turn it around with the Swedes, when we were in the same situation. We did it with four goals and we got three points. Today we only gave one, but we still managed it. We make such a small play off every match. “It’s great that we won. It’s a pity that it wasn’t full for three points, but the win is important. And I think it will kick us a bit for the match with the Slovaks,” said Chytil.

Klok got into the first chance after a minute and a half after Špaček’s pass Klok, but he did not beat Dahma from a position between the rings. It was at Klok’s expulsion that the Danes rejoiced. Nicklas Jensen beat Hrubce, who scored his fifth goal in the tournament, with a shot on the catch from the left circle.

“We wanted to go to the match actively from the first moment, but unfortunately we were stopped by a senseless exclusion. This direction is repeated over and over again. “with the psyche of the team, then the opponent played very well defensively. We were looking for a way to overcome it, and we found it only in the third period,” said Pešán.

Špaček or Šustr could answer, on the other hand Jensen Aabo threatened. The Czechs pushed for equalization, but Smejkal’s turn was blocked by Poulsen, Sklenička missed the goal and neither Dahma nor Kubalík overcame from the right circle. Before the first break during Lassen’s sentence, Zadina fired twice – the first time he missed and the second time his attempt by Markus Lauridsen skated the puck next to the left pole.

After a break in the continuing numerical advantage, the Danish goalkeeper covered the attempts of Kovář and Zadina. Pesan’s selection continued under pressure, but his opponent did not let him into great chances for a long time. Kubalík got to know about her only in the 29th minute after cooperation with Hronek, but Dahm hit with his left concrete.

Three minutes later, Špaček charged Matěj Stránský in front of an open goal, but the puck deflected the hockey stick Markus Lauridsen. With the expulsion of Danish captain Jensen Aab, only Kubalík threatened Dahm. In the 37th minute, Flek was defeated more than twice by the Danish goalkeeper. The Danes fired only three shots at Hrubka in part, but Nicklas Jensen’s shot just over the siren during Špaček’s disqualification was very dangerous.

Dahm resisted until 45:23, when Chytil presented the puck in front of an open goal to Kubalík, who easily scored his third goal in the tournament. In the middle of the third period, he could have added another, but the Danish goalkeeper intervened. In the 52nd minute, Andersen was ahead of Hrubec after Jakobsen’s pass, but the Czech goalkeeper struck with a key intervention with his left concrete. In the event of a loss in regular play, the Czechs would lose the quarterfinals.

In the 56th minute, Crow took Meyer’s puck on the defensive blue line, but Dahm eliminated his escape with a catch. In the setting, Storm offered the Czech team a power play with a high stick foul on Hronka, in which Kubalík did not change two chances at first, and in the time of 64:37 Hronek scored. After the coaching challenge of the Danes, however, the goal was not recognized for Kubalík’s previous offside. Pešán’s choice no longer used the power play extended by the returned time.

However, all four Czech executors prevailed in the shootout. Dahma overcame Hanzl, Crow and Blacksmith, alternating Sogaard then Caught. Hrubec first covered Meyer’s attempt, then they were overcome by Bau Hansen, Nicklas Jensen and True, and at 3: 3, Willers did not beat Andersen.

“We would like to know the answer to the question why we are able to take up to the third period when it flows into our shoes. I think we have already shown that we can play completely differently than in the first period, which also costs us a lot of energy. But I’m glad that the strength of the team showed, and in the end we managed it, “said Kubalík.
