Measures for the sports sector from June 9

Update May 26, 2021 – Minister of the Interior Annelies Verlinden presented the draft of MB with the corona measures for the first phase of the summer plan to the Council of State for advice yesterday evening. The measures will enter into force on June 9, 2021. Below are the main provisions related to sports that would apply from June 9. This is of course still subject to some reservations and, as always, deviating local measures can be taken by the local authorities. As soon as the MB has been finally published, the applicable protocols will be adjusted and published.

Audience at events, cultural and other performances, sports competitions and training and congresses

  • Indoors, these activities can be permitted by the competent municipal authority for a seated audience of maximum 75% of the CIRM capacity, without exceeding 200 people (including children up to 12 years old). If catering activities are carried out, the rules of the catering industry must be observed.
  • Outdoor, these activities can also be permitted by the competent municipal authority for a standing or seated audience of a maximum of 400 people (including children up to the age of 12), depending on the CERM. Outdoor European Championship screens can also be allowed. If catering activities are carried out, the rules of the catering industry must be observed.
  • The activities may take place between 5:00 am and 11:30 pm.

Furthermore, the following conditions must always be complied with:

  • The public may be received in groups of maximum four people (excluding children up to the age of 12), unless it concerns a household;
  • The operator or organizer informs visitors, staff members and third parties in a timely and clearly visible manner about the applicable prevention measures and provides the staff members with appropriate training;
  • A distance of 1.5 meters between each group of four or each household is guaranteed;
  • Covering the mouth and nose with a face mask in the company or association is mandatory in areas open to the public, and if the rules of social distancing cannot be observed due to the nature of the activity, other personal protective equipment is strongly recommended;
  • The institution is organized in such a way that gatherings are avoided and that the rules of social distancing can be respected, also with regard to people waiting outside the institution, if necessary in accordance with the guidelines of the competent authority;
  • The operator or organizer makes resources for the necessary hand hygiene available to staff and visitors;
  • The operator or organizer takes the appropriate hygiene measures to regularly disinfect the establishment and the material used;
  • The operator or organizer provides good ventilation.

Organized activities

One or more groups of a maximum of 50 people up to and including June 24, 2021 and of a maximum of 100 people from June 25, 2021, not including the supervisors, may participate in organized activities, in particular organized by a club or association, always in the presence of an adult trainer, supervisor or supervisor. The following measures must be observed:

  • The people who come together for these activities must remain in the same group and must not be placed together with the people of another group;
  • Unless this is impossible due to the nature of the activity (eg scouting activity), groups are formed of a maximum of four people (excluding children up to the age of 12), unless it concerns a household;
  • The supervisors and the participants from the age of 13 respect the rules of social distancing as far as possible, in particular maintaining a distance of 1.5 meters between each person;
  • Participants up to the age of 18 may be accompanied by no more than one member of the same household.

Up to and including 24 June 2021 the activities may only take place without an overnight stay.

Sport

  • Professional sports competitions and professional sports training can take place without limitation of the number of participants.
  • A maximum of 50 people inside or 100 people outside may participate in non-professional sports competitions and non-professional sports training.
  • Non-professional combat sports competitions remain prohibited.
  • In fitness centers, the use of a CE-marked air quality meter is mandatory.
