Thus far, 16 of 32 first-rounders have had their fifth-year contracts picked up. Most are of the no-brainer variety, like Trevor Lawrence, Ja’Marr Chase, Micah Parsons and etc. Other players have already inked contract extensions, which included picking up the fifth year as part of the pact — Penei Sewell, DeVonta Smith. Many that will be declined come with players who have moved on from their original teams, like Zach Wilson or Trey Lance.
