Madrid court bans UEFA and Fifa from any measure against Super League

First legal victory for the Super League. A Madrid court on Tuesday banned in summary proceedings to UEFA and Fifa any measure against the launch of this dissident private competition which opened a conflict in European football, according to the decision obtained by AFP.

In this text, the Commercial Court n ° 17 of Madrid indicates that it has “ordered” to Fifa and UEFA “To refrain from adopting any measure or action […] which prevents or poses difficulties, of direct or indirect form, to the preparation of the Super League of football, the time that the case is judged on the merits.

The same court specifies, moreover, to have “not allowed” to both instances to take “Disciplinary measures or sanctions” against clubs, managers and players involved in the preparation of the Super League. It prohibits them, in particular, from“Exclude clubs and / or players […] from any international or national club competition ”.

This opinion is not likely to calm the tensions, very sharp since Sunday evening and the announcement by the twelve mutinous clubs – six English clubs, three Spanish and three Italian – of their desire to create an almost closed league, comparable to the Euroleague. basketball, which sparked an open war in European football.

What response from UEFA and Fifa?

It remains to be seen how UEFA and FIFA intend to respond to this injunction issued by a single Spanish court, while their threats of retaliation concern all of Europe. In a letter sent Sunday to Fifa and UEFA, the promoters of the Super League claimed to have already launched “A procedure before the competent courts, to ensure the establishment and smooth running of the competition”.

The idea was to undermine in advance the reprisals of the two bodies, which threatened from January to exclude dissidents from their competitions, depriving for example of Euro and World Cup players involved in this private tournament.
