Boca Juniors, International, Olympiad and the Catholic University assured their presence in the Round of 16 of the Libertadores Cup 2021 this Wednesday, in what was an embarrassing day for Santos, finalist of the last edition, who will have as a consolation fighting in the South American Cup.
With the four that add up, the 16 teams were defined, with the exception that 12 of them are Argentine and Brazilian, a situation that led several fans to express their desire to see Mexican clubs back in competition, given the dominance that the two South American giants have established in recent years.
The historic Santos was the only team from those two countries eliminated in the first round, while the rest advanced with ease, except River Plate, which was saved thanks to a tie between Santa Fe Y Junior 0-0, since if the second won he would leave it out.

While in the 18 years that the Liga MX teams played the Libertadores could not win any (Cruz Azul in 2001, Chivas in 2010 and Tigres in 2015 were finalists), fans in South America generally admitted that it was more competitive, so there were those who wanted to see them back.
Recently Mikel Arriola, president of Liga MX, pointed out that one of his lines of work focuses on the return to the club tournament, although no progress has been made.
Libertadores became Brazil x Argentina, after the Mexican teams left, a lot of vacancies for both

When the Mexicans were there, the liberators were 10 times better.

It is time for the @Libertadores consider the chance to incorporate Mexico and the United States and make the Cup more complex and with fewer teams per country. There are too many clubs that do not have a hierarchy for this competition and they level down.
