Formula 1 in mourning, Max Mosley died at 81

Formula 1 and the racing world say goodbye to Max Mosley: the president of Son from 1993 to 2009 is died at the age of 81. This was announced by the British media.

Controversial figure, son of Oswald Mosley, founder of the Union of British Fascists, has been for decades one of the great protagonists of Formula 1, first as co-founder e team owner (March Engineering), then as a commercial agent for the teams, then as president of the FIA, succeeding in 1993 the resigning Jean-Marie Balestre.

In his 16 years as Federation number one, Mosley spent a lot of money for the safety of drivers on the track. In 2009, overwhelmed by the Nazi-related sex scandal, he was forced not to reapply in the elections.

Bernie Ecclestone, his great friend, reminded him to the BBC microphones: “It’s like losing your family, like losing a brother. He has done a lot of good things not only for motorsport, but also for the automotive industry. He was very good at getting the teams to build safe cars ”.

With Ecclestone, Mosley created FOCA, an association to increase the earnings of the stables, a first step towards the current Pact of Concord, which manages the economic and commercial side of all the stables of the premier class of engines.
