Uncertainty Surrounds OG Anunoby’s Future with the New York Knicks as Free Agency Looms

When the New York Knicks sent RJ Barret, Immanuel Quickley and a second round pick to Toronto to get OG Anunoby, they expected the forward to re-sign this summer. Even more so with the fit he showed from the first minute and the ceiling the team reached thanks to him. However, a few days away from becoming an unrestricted free agent due to the expiration of his contract, the options are open.

Jake Fischer, Yahoo Sports journalist, states in his latest article that there are no guarantees of his permanence in New York. Apparently the rumors proliferated during the Chicago Draft Combine, an annual meeting point for most franchise representatives. There was talk that Pascal Siakam’s continuity in Indiana was almost assured. While with Anunoby it was not so clear. The general feeling was that the forward could go out in free agency to study his market options beyond the Knicks.

The Briton has a player option for next season, but everything indicates that he will reject it. Once this happens, he will be able to sign a four-year, $117 million contract with the Knicks. At the moment there is no evidence that the franchise has already put the money on the table.
