When Calvert-Lewin silenced Old Trafford

Dominic Calvert-Lewin hurt Manchester United with his goal in the dying seconds. The Everton attacker didn’t even think his goal would be passed.

MU vs Everton duel at Old Trafford, Sunday (7/2/2021) in the morning WIB, it was going on fiercely since the early minutes. MU, who was dominant in the first half, managed to get ahead first through Edinson Cavani in the 24th minute.

Bruno Fernandes then doubled the score at the end of the first half. Everton looked set to be slaughtered before two quick goals in the second half, through Abdoulaye Doucoure in the 49th minute and James Rodriguez in the 52nd to make the score equally strong 2-2.

MU then turned ahead again in the 70th minute through Scott McTominay’s header. Three points are back in MU’s grasp until the violation at the end of the second half injury time was fatal.

Lucas Digne sent the ball into the penalty box and Michael Keane headed in front of goal. Calvert-Lewin then slipped to cheat the ball taking advantage of David de Gea’s hesitations and the final score was 3-3.

MU failed to approach distance with Manchester City at the top of the standings, while Everton succeeded in making the hosts heartbroken. Moreover, MU rarely throws away a two-goal advantage in the first half of a home game.

This is the second time Manchester United have done so after being matched by West Bromwich Albion 2-2 in October 2010. Calvert-Lewin admitted that he was hesitant to celebrate a goal because his goal was reviewed by VAR considering the potential for offside.

“There’s no better time to score than this. Even when I’m running celebrating a goal, I can’t do it wholeheartedly because there’s VAR. It’s really thin. I don’t handball but I doubt whether it’s offside or not,” said Dominic Calvert. -Lewin was quoted as saying BBC Sport.

“I didn’t realize Robin Olsen was also advancing. It’s all about placing the right position. I knew I would find it difficult to get in contact with the ball in the first opportunity, so I tried only the second chance,” he continued.
