The date for the National Games 2022 is set

The major event is also the gateway to the international stage: For the athletes, the National Games 2022 are the chance to qualify for the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023 (June 17-24), which will be held in Germany for the first time.

Dennis Mellentin, athletes spokesman for Special Olympics Berlin / Brandenburg, says: “We athletes are currently unable to practice our sport. Many events planned for this year have already been canceled. It helps to look ahead during this difficult time. With the date for the National Games 2022 now set, we can all look forward to something big together. I am sure: My hometown will give the athletes a warm welcome. “

The National Summer Games are held every four years. They are an absolute highlight for up to 5000 athletes and Unified® partners, including 400 international participants, in more than 20 sports. But not just sporty: the event with an extensive health and supporting program is a great celebration of meeting and togetherness between people with and without disabilities. With up to 3,000 volunteers and 2,000 trainers, the Special Olympics Berlin 2022 will have the dimensions of a major event.

The qualification for the National Games 2022 should actually take place in 2021 via the corresponding state games and other recognition competitions. However, the majority of the events have already been canceled for this year due to the current Corona crisis. The athletes are therefore nominated on the basis of an alternative, nationwide nomination process that was developed jointly by Special Olympics Germany with the regional associations and the national coordinators of the sports.
