In recent days, video game companies around the world have released their financial reports for the last quarter or the entire year. Konami was one of them and from the news you can see that it didn’t have its best year as its profits were declining, but on the contrary the video game division shone.

The Japanese company has just shared its latest financial report (via GamesIndustry.biz), corresponding to the third quarter of the fiscal year, which ended in December 2020. The report mentions that profits reached 191.9 billion yen ( around 1.8 billion dirhams), that is to say that they fell only 0.6% compared to the previous year. However, it is striking that almost all divisions of the company have recorded significant losses.

Profits from Konami’s attractions business fell 31.7%, while the games and systems division also declined (48.8%), as did its sports activities (43.9%).

Momotaro Dentetsu and mobile games boost Konami’s revenue

However, this was not bad news for Konami, as the digital entertainment division grew 33.1% over the same period last year, reaching 144.6 billion yen in profit (around 1, 3 MMDD), which stands out if we take note that all divisions posted bearish gains.

This should come as no surprise to many, as, as has happened with other companies, pandemic-derived health emergencies have increased spending on video games, especially digital ones. Precisely, mobile games have been the key to the good performance of this Konami division, such as Professional Baseball Spirits A and eFootball Winning Eleven 2021.

Console games were not far behind. As we told you in the latest weekly sales reports from Japan, one of the titles that caught the attention of the Japanese is Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban !, whose Konami performance was stood out in the report because in less than 2 months it has already given out 2.5 million units, it is so far the best-selling game of 2020 in the region and it has not even left # 1 on the list in a week since its premiere.

In case you missed it: Konami was developing a game for the Nintendo Switch, but canceled it.
