Italian federation opens proceedings after incident between Lukaku and Ibrahimovic

The altercation between Lukaku and Ibrahimovic began after a foul by Romagnoli on the Red Devil at the end of the first period. The two players found themselves head to head. Thanks to the microphones, we could then hear Lukaku accusing Ibrahimovic of having insulted his mother and the Red Devil responded by insulting Ibrahimovic and his wife.

Last Friday, the Gazzetta dello Sport already reported that the FIGC was considering opening a procedure based on the referee’s report. “As part of the investigation, the federal prosecutor has decided to summon referee Paolo Valeri, who will be questioned in the coming hours in order to clarify the scope of the sanctions already imposed on the two players during the match”, specified the FIGC in its press release.

Lukaku and Ibrahimovic both received yellow cards in the incident. With this card, the Red Devil will be suspended for the first leg of the semi-final against Juventus on Wednesday. Ibrahimovic was excluded in the second half after receiving a second yellow card.
