PSG crowned for the 10th time after having mastered OM

And ten! Paris Saint-Germain won their tenth Champions Trophy by dominating a Marseille team lacking in offensive inspiration this Wednesday evening on the lawn of Stade Bollaert (2-1). Author of the opening scoring, Mauro Icardi was imitated by Neymar, sealing the fate of the meeting from the penalty spot despite the too late reduction of the score by Dimitri Payet. A good performance by Mauricio Pochettino’s men, who therefore won a first title in his third match on the bench of the French champions.

Icardi in all the right ways

The Parisians have had their revenge. Dominated by a very good Marseille team during the third day of the championship (1-0), Paris Saint-Germain has shown that they are keen to win this second “Classic” of the season. But all was not so easy for the protected Mauricio Pochettino, long hampered by a very good Marseille pressing.

After twenty long minutes to prevent the French champions from relaunching themselves properly, OM experienced a first fright. Launched into the box by Leandro Paredes, Kylian Mbappé served Mauro Icardi perfectly in front of Steve Mandanda’s goal to open the scoring. But that was without counting the referee, signifying an offside position of the Parisian passer (22nd). Bis repeated a few minutes later, this time with Kylian Mbappé at the conclusion of a flat foot leaving Mandanda stoic (29th).

Despite these two refused goals, the Parisians did not abdicate. And Mauro Icardi, perfectly served by a millimeter center from Angel Di Maria, was right to persevere, opening the scoring in two stages after seeing his head pushed back into his feet by Steve Mandanda (1-0, 39th). The Argentine striker could even have doubled the bet before returning to the locker room but his powerful shot from the left was returned by the cross (45th).

Successful return for Neymar

The Marseillais, who lost Steve Mandanda to a thigh injury, had a long time in the second half. But Florian Thauvin (53rd) and Caleta-Car (60th) saw their attempts returned by Keylor Navas. Surely feeling the tide turning, Mauricio Pochettino then decided to relaunch Neymar in the deep end.

Very leggy, the Brazilian star, who made the defenders of OM dizzy with his sharp acceleration, put PSG back on track. And on a final counter-attack, Mauro Icardi, superbly launched in the area, was mown down by Yohann Pelé, offering a nice gift of return to Neymar, hastening to transform his penalty of a wrong foot (2-0 , 85th).

And if Dimitri Payet gave the Marseillais a few minutes of hope by taking over a cross from Florian Thauvin from the right wing (2-1, 90th), the damage was already done: it was the Parisians who lifted their first trophy of the season. A good omen before resuming their main objective: to dislodge Lyon from first place in Ligue 1 to win a new title of champion of France.
