Judo – For riders and Fara it’s all about everything now

As of now, the Summer Olympics will take place in 2021, according to the Japanese government and the International Olympic Committee. Although the situation in this regard is still uncertain, the top fighters of JC Wimpassing are working intensively towards participation, because the first Grand Slams and “points catapults” for qualification are coming up soon.

If everything goes as planned, 2021 would be remembered in particular by all judo fans. Because never before have there been a European or World Championship or the Olympic Games in one year. While the European Championship in Lisbon is scheduled for April, the Olympic dress rehearsal for the Créme de la Créme will take place in Budapest in June. There will also be five Grand Slams to be completed this year. These competitions will be of fundamental importance, especially for Fara and Reiter, because they can collect a lot of points for Japan. “Physically and judo technically I was able to develop a lot recently. I definitely want to qualify for the Olympics. So now I have to stick with it and continue to develop my strengths. I am optimistic for 2021 and know that I can beat anyone, ”said Lukas Reiter, who is 44th in the Olympic ranking (up to 73 kilograms).

For a permanent participation he would have to be in 18th place. Colossus Aaron Fara (up to 100 kg) is on rank 37 – compatriot Laurin Böhler is just ahead of him. However, only one person can qualify per weight class and country. “I still have a few tournaments ahead of me where I will do my best. If I perform well there and finish ahead of the Böhler, I can really say that I deserve to be there, but even if I don’t – no problem, ”says Fara under no pressure.

Michi Polleres (up to 70 kg), in seventh place, pretty much fixed, wants to keep attacking: “My goal is medals at the Olympics, the Grand Slams and the World Cup. The pressure is getting bigger and bigger, of course, but I try to ignore that and give my best in the fight! “
