On Saturday and Sunday, “Parnu VK” led by the head coach of the Latvian national team Avo Kēl visited Latvia with three Latvians – Tomas Švans, Atvars Ozoliņš and Kristaps Platačs – in their ranks. Pärnu residents came to Latvia in a good mood, because the year had started with a victory, playing “TalTech” in Tallinn a week ago – 3-2 (25:23, 21:25, 27:25, 17:25, 15:13).

Kristaps Platačs gave an excellent game in the ranks of the guests, who scored 24 points, two of them also playing with a serve and a block. The captain of the Latvian national team Toms Švans stood out with 16 points, two of them “finding” in the block and attacking with 74% accuracy, but Atvars Ozoliņš started the year with 14 points, collecting one by one in the block and from the service line.

Both opponents are heading to Latvia this weekend. On Saturday, the people of Pärnu failed to continue the series of victories in Jēkabpils, just as they failed to revenge for the painful loss in five sets on their field in the first round game. SK “Jēkabpils Lūši” volleyball players, in whose ranks there are also many candidates for the Latvian national team, were convincingly superior with 3: 0 (25:18, 25:18, 25:19).

Kristaps Šmits was the most productive with 18 points, who managed to score three points in a block and with a serve, as well as to attack with an excellent 63% efficiency. 15 points for Pavel Jemeljanov, four of them in the block, but eight points for Jānis Medenis, who this time worked on the field in the position of the second tempo striker and scored point by point in the block.

In the guest ranks, Platačs was again the most productive with 10 points, who scored two points in the block and one – in the serve. Švanas had seven points, but Ozoliņš scored four points, one of which was scored in the block, but in the attack to the floor he managed to get only every fourth ball.

In the second match of Saturday, “RTU Robežsardze” / “Jūrmala” also beat the “TalTech” volleyball players in three sets for the second time in the season, destroying them with 3-0 (25:11, 25:16, 25:13).

The winners had 21 points in Renārs Paul Jansons’ account, who acted as a diagonal striker. He has four successful blocks and one “aisle”. Playing without a second attack, the leader Alexander Avdeyev, 18 points went to Patrick Pink, who attacked with 68% accuracy and scored two points in the block, as well as one – with an elusive serve. Edgars Šimanskis scored 8 points, standing out with three “runs”, which was the best indicator in the match, and one point in the block.

Valentin Cordas scored 11 points for his opponents.

Latvian clubs also celebrated victory in three sets on Sunday, significantly improving the situation in the tournament table as well. Jūrmalnieki beat “Parnu VK” 3-0 (25:22, 25:19, 25:23).

Jansons and Pinka scored 13 points each, but Aivis Āboliņš scored 12 points, who scored two points in the block, as well as one – with an elusive serve. For the guests at the expense of Latvians 15 points for Ozoliņš, 11 – for Švan, including two “aisles”, but this time for Platača less successful fight – five points and replacement in the second set.

“We were preparing for these games, because they were also important from the point of view of the tournament table – we are all close. If we were 3-0 in Tallinn against TalTech, we wanted at home no worse. This time we played more convincingly, “said the coach of Jurmala club Klāvs Zaļkalns after the games.

“Aivis played, in my opinion, his best game of the season. Patrick replaced Avdejev well, and other young people also played well – Jansons, Šimanskis and Dzenis, who are making rapid progress,” the coach adds. “Glad that when someone falls out of the basic line-up, someone else takes his place, and there is the desired result.”

“Lynx” also played “TalTech” after winning over last year’s people – 3-0 (25:22, 27:25, 25:12).

At once, three volleyball players scored 11 points each in the home ranks: Šmits, Kristers Dardzāns and Vladislavs Blumbergs. Dardzāns and Blumbergs scored two of them in the block, but Vladislav, like the builder Edvīns Skrūder, also had two other elusive services.

Tamurs Vīdaleps was the most productive with 12 points.

In the tournament table, the first Saaremaa VK team with 29 points in 12 battles is. “Jēkabpils Lūši” has risen to the third place with 24 points in 13 matches, but “RTU Robežsardze” / “Jūrmala” with 23 points gained in 12 games – to the fourth place.
