NBA fines Timberwolves’ Rudy Gobert $75,000 for money sign gesture towards referees

The NBA fined Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert $75,000 for making a money sign gesture toward referees during a Game 4 loss to the Denver Nuggets.

DENVER — Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert was fined $75,000 for rubbing his fingers together in a money sign gesture. directed at referees during Game 4 of the Wolves’ second-round series against the Denver Nuggets, the league announced Tuesday.

Joe Dumars, executive vice president and head of basketball operations for the NBA, considered the actions of Gobert an “unprofessional gesture that calls into question the integrity of the league and its game officials” and also said in a statement that the fine “takes into account the history of Gobert of inappropriate conduct toward game officials.”

Gobert he took the fine in stride when asked about the NBA sanction.

The Wolves and Nuggets are tied 2-2 in their Western Conference semifinal series heading into Game 5 on Tuesday. Gobert averaged 7.7 points, 10.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in three games of the series.
