Exceptional performance of Soria’s seniors in the badminton master’s degree in Vitoria

The 2021 season for badminton from Soria began this weekend with the first national master held in Vitoria. The nine displaced Sorianos had a phenomenal competition, obtaining thirteen medals, seven of which were gold.

In a tournament, marked by the coronavirus pandemic, the organization took extreme security measures to guarantee the safety of the participants, referees and organizing staff of the competition.

Both Esther Pereira, from AD89, and David Hernansanz, from Club Badminton Soria-CS24, particularly stood out with two gold medals each.

Esther Pereira, a great doubles player, won triumphs in the women’s doubles modalities, pairing up with Jennifer Fernández from Palencia and in mixed doubles with her club mate, Sergio Latorre.

Meanwhile, David Hernansanz from Soria fulfilled the predictions, winning both in individual and men’s doubles in category A2 with his partner for several seasons, the Leganés Badminton Club player, Sebastián López. In this same modality, the couple formed by Sergio Latorre from Burgos and Alvaro Sanz from Soria won the silver medal. Álvaro himself got the third position in individual.

Víctor Ortega, also from CBSoria-CS24, won in individual category A1 without giving up a single set. The victory in the Victorian master’s degree increases him to the first position of the national ranking. He would complete his performance with a silver medal in the men’s doubles category. Víctor begins his career with José Miranda from Jaén, who with this second place as a start, can consolidate as a leading couple in future competitions.

Another gold medal came from the couple Manuel Acero and Santiago Martinez in the men’s double modality, couple number one in the national ranking. The Sorians achieved victory by winning their matches with relative comfort in their B2 category. Both, added another medal in their individual tables. Santiago disputed the final of the B2 category having to settle for silver, while Manuel Acero, with the semifinals achieved in C1, took the bronze medal.

The seventh gold was achieved by the AD89 player Cristina Puebla. Together with Cristina Irigoien from Vitoria, they prevailed in the B1 women’s double in the first competition in which they played together.

José Romero, thanks to the men’s individual semifinals of B1, achieved the last bronze of the Soria expedition.

Excellent balance obtained by Soria players at the start of the season. After this competition, the Spanish Federation has decided to suspend all competitions until March after the emergence of the third wave of the Covid pandemic19, so the national calendar must be rethought without having dates of next appointments.
