TV3 and Barça TV remember the legacy of Tito Vilanova

TV3 and Barça TV will premiere this Tuesday (10:05 pm) 100×100 Tito, a documentary produced by Barça Studios that recalls the figure of Tito Vilanova. The audiovisual piece, which is directed by Cristina Collado and Marta Busquets and has the executive production of Paco Latorre and Helena Vila, was awarded in the sports category of the Zoom Festival of Igualada. The documentary offers unpublished audiovisual material, never seen before, belonging to the family’s personal archive. During the footage you can see, for example, one of the last motivational talks that Tito Vilanova recorded for the first team from his New York apartment while undergoing medical treatment. Sitting on a sofa, Vilanova addressed the staff via his mobile phone.

The cameras of the documentary travel to L’Escala and Bellcaire d’Empordà (Girona), where Vilanova’s parents currently live; in New York, where he underwent surgery and treatment; in Andorra, where his son Adrià currently plays; in Qatar, to interview Xavi Hernández, and even in the room of the Hospital Quirón in Barcelona where Tito spent his last days accompanied by his closest circle. 100×100 Tito focuses on the 2012/13 season, a campaign in which Barça had to face their coach’s fight against cancer. Those hard times were a moral blow to a Barça squad that came together to overcome the shock with a great spirit of overcoming.

The 70-minute documentary has a wide range of witnesses who make the story a reliable and tender story. There is a good representation of the players of that season: Messi, Piqué, Busquets, Xavi, Jordi Alba, Puyol, Iniesta, Pedro, Abidal and Cesc Fàbregas. Members of the staff coach and the executive structure of the club at the time, such as Andoni Zubizarreta and also Jordi Roura and Aureli Altimira, the anonymous heroes of history, in charge of running the ship while his captain and friend fought for his life. There are also institutional representatives such as Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell, as well as his widow, Montse; his sons, Adrià and Carlota, and his father, Quimet.

“All the values that Barça transmits, Tito reflected in everything he did,” says Messi. The Argentine star explains how Vilanova convinced him to stay at Barça. “Tito made it possible for Barça’s coach to be a person who behaved in an absolutely normal way; and what seems obvious is neither so obvious nor so common,” said Jordi Roura, his close friend since they coincided in La Masia together with Altimira, Guardiola and Amor.
