Ronald Koeman suffered a stroke – “then life changes”

For Ronald Koeman, the job as head coach of FC Barcelona is perhaps the greatest of his career. But shortly before his start, the Dutchman had to struggle with a health setback.

Ronald Koeman suffered a minor stroke shortly before he was appointed coach of FC Barcelona in May. The 57-year-old Dutchman said this in an interview published on Wednesday on the club website of the Spanish top football club. “When things like that happen or when people close to you get sick, life changes. It makes you see things differently,” said the former Barça professional.

Big goals with Barcelona

In August 2020 Koeman gave up his post as bond coach and took over FC Barcelona as Quique Setién’s successor. “I’m 57 years old and I’ve trained for several years, but I don’t want to do that when I’m 70. Now was the right time to come here. It was always my dream to coach FC Barcelona,” said the former defender, who played for the Catalans between 1989 and 1995 and won four league titles.

He also wants to do that with Barça as a coach. “At a club like Barça you have to win things. I think our ultimate purpose is to win games and trophies. We can’t settle for less,” said the 1988 European champions.
