Formula 1: seven Latin American drivers have won a Grand Prix

The Mexican pilot Sergio ‘Czech’ Pérez got his first victory in the Formula 1 by prevailing in the Sakhir Grand Prize, penultimate round of the 2020 championship that already established the British as champion Lewis Hamilton.

It took ten years since Pérez made his debut in the big top of motorsport for him to celebrate his first triumph, which also allowed him to become the seventh Latin American driver to win a Formula 1 grand prix.

The list, which includes the Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya, is headed by the Argentine legend Juan Manuel Fangio, who celebrated 24 times. The select group is also part José Froilán González (2 celebrations) and Carlos Reutemann, with 12 wins.

Montoya obtained seven victories which are distributed in four with the Williams team and three with McLaren. The first was in 2001 at the Monza Grand Prix, while the last was achieved in 2005 at the Interlagos Grand Prix in Brazil. The Bogota native also celebrated at the legendary Monaco Grand Prix in 2003.

The list of Latin American drivers who have won in Formula 1 is completed by the Mexican Pedro Rodriguez (twice) the Venezuelan Pasto Maldonado (an opportunity).
