England player sentenced to unprecedented sanction over sports betting affair

Atlético Madrid defender Kieran Trippier has been suspended for ten weeks by the English Football Federation (FA) for breaches of the FA betting rules. Trippier must also pay a fine of 70,000 pounds (77,000 euros). The FA announced it on Wednesday, specifying that the suspension was effective “worldwide”.

Trippier was accused of seven alleged breaches of FA rules, which allegedly took place in July 2019. The defender denied these offenses and asked to be heard. An independent regulatory commission has been appointed to deal with the matter.

She concluded that four offenses were proven while the other three were dismissed after the player’s hearing. “The suspension, which applies to football and all football-related activities, takes effect worldwide from this Wednesday following a request to FIFA“, specified the FA, which will communicate the motivations of the independent regulatory commission “in proper time.”
