African Championships 2020: Morocco prevails in the women’s events

The capital of Madagascar has become this weekend host to the Senior African Championships in women’s and men’s judo. Regarding the women’s events, Morocco returns home with four medals (1 gold and 3 silver), followed by Algeria whose participants have Got 3 (1 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze). Finally the third place in the medal table has been for Cameroon, also with 3 medals.

The fighting began on Thursday 17 amid great expectations, where the South African Genorai Whitebooi got the gold by beating the Moroccan Azizz Chakir in the super lightweight category (-48). In the next category (-52 kg.) The victory went to Taciana Cesar, from Guinea-Borau, leaving Moroccan Soumiya Iraqi with the silver. In the bouts of -57 kg. Angolan Diassonema Mucungui won, defeating Zouleiha Abzetta Dabonne (Ivory Coast)

African Judo Championships: Egypt at the head of the men’s medal table.

On Friday 18 it was the turn of the lightweights, who faced Amina Belkadi (Algeria) in -63 kg against Sofía Belattar (Morocco), being the victory for the first. It was also the turn of -70kg, with the victory of the Moroccan Assmaa Niang ahead of the Cameroonian Ayuk Otay Arrey Sophina.

Yesterday Saturday, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Cameroon took the women’s gold medals, with the respective victories of María Branser (78 kg) and Hortence Vanessa Mbala Atangana (+ 78 kg).

The tests have been held in the Palace of Sports and Culture located in the same city of Antananarivo and it has had all the security measures and anti-Covid-19 protocols established by the authorities and official bodies.
