Padres Poised to Break Losing Streak Against Reds: MLB Betting Strategy Paying Off

Damn, have we been hard-nosed with our National Hockey League (NHL) betting lately or what?

In the Saturday edition of the Journal, I recommended betting on two underdogs who, in my opinion, should avoid the sweep: the New York Islanders and the Tampa Bay Lightning. Both clubs won, which was great!

Also remember my favorite option from a few Saturdays ago when I discussed the first round series? Sure enough, the New York Rangers would win the series in six games or less. They completed the sweep last night, so we were right again! Thank you so much for being such loyal readers!

That said, my favorite bet in major league baseball today is supported by a betting strategy that I have decided to call “The Broken Team Showdown 2” and which goes like this:

Suppose the away team has lost its last 1, 2 or 3 matches, while the home club has been beaten in four or more consecutive duels. In such circumstances, according to historical data, the wisest decision is to bet on the local team to get out of its bad situation.

Today, the Cincinnati Reds are the visitors and have lost their last game. Meanwhile, the home team, the San Diego Padres, find themselves in the midst of a four-game losing streak. This fits with the rules laid out earlier, so under the “Showdown of Broken Teams 2” system, my pick is for the Padres to get the job done against the Reds. At the time of writing this article, they were underdogs.

Overall, the Reds are a slightly better team than the Padres, as their current record and chances to win the World Series show. Cincinnati also holds the edge in pitching matchups, but by a slim margin. Nick Lodolo was brilliant in his first two outings of the 2024 campaign, but he struggled much more in his third start. He posted very poor stats last year, so I think he could perform poorly again today.

Meanwhile, Matt Waldron has bounced back nicely after a rough start against the Toronto Blue Jays. He allowed just one run at hitter-friendly Coors Field. Not too long ago, he impressed me by giving up a single run against the Dodgers in Los Angeles.

Currently, the Padres are 8-6 on the road, compared to a 6-11 record at Petco Park. That’s about to change. San Diego will defeat the Reds tonight!
