EHC Red Bull Munich continues to enjoy its derby role. On Monday evening he also won his third game of the season in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) – and for the third time against a Bavarian rival. In the 6-0 win against the Nürnberg Ice Tigers, coach Don Jackson’s team had few problems. Goalkeeper Daniel Fießinger celebrated his second clear game in the DEL.

The focus was mostly on Ilya Sharipov. The Nuremberg goalkeeper, who was in the Munich squad in the 2015/16 season but did not play a game for the EHC, was preferred to national goalkeeper Niklas Treutle and had a lot to do from the start. He fended off a concealed shot by Yasin Ehliz (2nd) and a hard slap shot by Frank Mauer (5th), even in a confusing turmoil in his goal area he could not be overcome (9th). In minute ten he couldn’t do anything either: Mauer initiated a quick counterattack from Munich, which Kalle Kosilla completed. The Nürnberger Tor was slightly postponed, but the hit counted according to video evidence because the target would have gone in anyway. “With the 1-0 win we definitely got better into the game,” said Maximilian Kastner, who had a good share in the 2-0 win, at Magentasport. In the 14th minute, he blocked Sharipov’s view so that the shot of the ex-Nürnberger Ehliz hit the Ice Tigers’ box. The Franks, who had to compete without their captain Patrick Reimer (back problems), were able to thank their goalkeeper that they only went into the first period of three with a 2-0 deficit: Sharipov made great chances for Chris Bourque (15th) and Trevor Parkes (20th) nullified.

“We just play it,” explained Kastner. “Shots on goal, man in front of the goal, that’s what happens.” As in minute 33, when Patrick Hager pulled from the blue line and Kastner deflected the target in front of Sharipov to make it 3-0. Before that, Kastner had hit the goal frame (29th), as did his strike colleague Mark Voakes (34th). Hager on presentation of Kastner (42nd), Trevor Parkes (50th) and Ehliz (60th) increased to 6: 0, Nicolas Appendino had to go into the dressing room injured (49th).

Before the derby, Munich announced that their attacker Bastian Eckl would have to pause for several weeks due to an upper body injury. After goalkeeper Danny aus den Birken, defender Konrad Abeltshauser and strikers Derek Roy and Dennis Lobach, the 20-year-old is already number five at the EHC.
