MGPA and Dorna Sports talked about the preparation for the Indonesian MotoGP, including explaining the purpose of the reserve Grand Prix venues.

Madrid, runganSport – Before the 2020 MotoGP season ends, Grand Prix organizers, Dorna Sports has released the interim MotoGP calendar for the 2021 season.

This immediately became a scene because of the name Indonesia on one of the reserve lists, along with Portugal and Russia.

It’s just that Indonesia is the only reserve country that does not have a circuit, because until the end of 2020 Mandalika is still under construction.

Explaining this condition, MGPA representing the Mandalika circuit said that Indonesia was free to determine dates for races with status “Reserve Grand Prix venues”.

However, this was denied by the MotoGP.com technical support staff, who used to provide information about MotoGP and the latest schedules.

In an email, they explained that the “reserve Grand Prix venues” is a reserve, not a special treatment.

After the drama happened, now finally Dorna Sports explained it.

According to them, Reserve does mean reserve, and the date for the Indonesian MotoGP title will be discussed later after the circuit is complete, ready to use and qualify.

Ricky Baheramsjah, CEO of the GP of Indonesia (Mandalika Grand Prix Association or MGPA), shared his joy with the Indonesian people for the news regarding the 2021 Provisional Calendar.

Indonesia which is positioned as one of the Grand Prix reserve venues means that the timing of the Indonesian GP is very dependent on the track being completed and undergoing Homologation and Testing.

More critically, given the current global pandemic situation that is causing challenges on an unexpected scale, the ‘Interim Calendar’ may still be undergoing changes. Until these potential changes are resolved, the weekend date in 2021 with Dorna can only be discussed later.

“We are very pleased to have reached this point in our journey and we would like to thank the many stakeholders regarding the construction and operational preparation of venues and infrastructure outside Mandalika that are being developed to support this event.

We also want to congratulate Dorna for an excellent 2020 Season with all the challenges they have had to overcome and thank you for their trust in us.

We have to focus now on development and hope that we will end the global pandemic soon because we really want Local and International Fans to experience the (racing) events and tours, ” the word Ricky Baheramsjah, as CEO of the Indonesian GP Organizer (Mandalika Grand Prix Association or MGPA), as announced MotoGP.com.

Furthermore, MGPA explained that the term “Reserve Place or GP Date” may be new to local fans, where Indonesia in the Provisional Calendar is adjacent to Portugal and Russia; however, usually tracks that are still under construction are at this position.

Dorna and MGPA’s intention to race in Indonesia in 2021 is certain. MGPA further explained that the impact of the global pandemic on safety and travel especially next year is still unclear and the world needs more time to overcome it.

Once the situation becomes clearer in early 2021, a weekend date can be agreed with Dorna subject to the stated terms.

What is clear is that Indonesia is currently trying to complete the circuit so that it can be homologated and then used for racing.

“Our aim and focus at this point is clear; ensure we complete the Street Circuit and prepare for operational implementation for GP Indonesia 2021.

In the end, our hard work and efforts are for Indonesian Fans. They have the right to watch this spectacular program live and especially in a safe environment free of COVID-19, ” thus Baheramsjah broke down.

Hearing that, Carmelo Ezpeleta, the CEO of Dorna Sports supports the statement made by MGPA with the following in mind.

“The focus should be on construction, homologation and testing, especially since this is a new road circuit. As mentioned, it is possible that changes will occur to the Interim Calendar and once we have a clearer picture, depending of course on construction and testing, we can start discussing possible dates for the Grand Prix in 2021, ” light the Spanish man.

Ezpeleta also emphasized that Indonesia is an important market for the Grand Prix and support for this event is strong.
