Kansas City Chiefs running back Damien Williams has decided not to play in the 2020 NFL season. The team announced on Wednesday.
“As an organization, we definitely understand and respect Damien’s decision as we know it was made in the best interests of his family,” said Brett Veach, general manager of the Chiefs, in a statement. “He means a lot to our football team as a player and as a person, and we will miss him this season.”
Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, the Chiefs offensive lineman, was recently the first NFL player to opt out of the upcoming season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Williams ran for 104 yards in Kansas City’s 17-20 Super Bowl LIV victory.
Kansas City decided to bring in running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
