“Mogo / LSPA” striker and manager Elvis Želubovskis told Latvian Television in an interview that four hockey players have positive Covid-19 analyzes and the whole team is in self-isolation after the game in Liepaja on Sunday.

The first infected in the team showed signs of illness at night from Sunday to Monday – the temperature was high, and the other three – on Monday morning. “Yesterday [pirmdien] we quickly organized and sent for testing, “said Zhelubowski.” This morning the results came that all four who handed over [analīzes], are Covid-19 positive.

As “Mogo / LSPA” went to and from the game in Liepaja in one bus, all the hockey players of the team were recognized as contact persons.

Due to the difficulties of “Mogo / LSPA”, the final of the Baltic Hockey League will not take place in Rēzekne over the weekend, which the organizers postponed indefinitely. In the interests of the health and safety of the players, the LHF hopes to hold the tournament once the situation has stabilized. HK “Liepāja” hockey players must also participate in the Baltic League final.

The Latvian championship, on the other hand, has a break until January 5, therefore no immediate changes are made to the game calendar. “Mogo / LSPA” takes the 3rd place in the tournament table after “Olimp / Venta 2002” and “Zemgale / LLU”.

In December, the games of the Latvian Championship leader Olimp / Venta 2002 were also canceled indefinitely, as the team was found to be infected with Covid-19. Previously, both “Zemgale / LLU” and Daugavpils “Dinaburga” were quarantined for two weeks in the season. HS “Rīga”, on the other hand, managed to play nine games until the government’s decision, which prevents minor athletes from starting due to the pandemic, suspended the participation of the youth team.

In the regular season, it is planned to play six rounds in a seven-team tournament, after which the four best teams would reach the playoffs.
