Olympique Marseille and Atalanta were unable to distance themselves from each other in the first leg of their semi-final in the Europa League. Atalanta took the lead early through Gianluca Scamacca, but saw old acquaintance Chancel Mbemba (ex-Anderlecht) quickly and beautifully equalize for the home team. Marseille pressed after halftime, but the score remained 1-1.

He only played six minutes in the competition last weekend, but for the important European move to Marseille, Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini again called on Charles De Ketelaere.

The Red Devil positioned himself up front in the shadow of striker Gianluca Scamacca and saw how the Italian struck after ten minutes. With a clever diagonal kick he made it 0-1, Scamacca’s sixth goal in his last six European matches.

Atalanta could not enjoy that lead for long, because ten minutes later, old acquaintance Chancel Mbemba – ex-Anderlecht – scored the equalizer nicely through the post. Atalanta showed themselves to be the better team before the break, but new goals remained.

After the break, Marseille fought more into the match. Sarr’s goal was disallowed for offside on the hour mark and five minutes before the end, Ounahi hit the ball on the crossbar. Marseille pressed, but it remained 1-1.

De Ketelaere, who showed himself several times after the break with a nice move, was substituted five minutes before the end. He can try to secure a place in the final in front of his own people next week.
