The college football 2020 schedule has been hit again this week by postponements and cancellations due to COVID-19, but the schedule for week 14 is the strongest – at least in terms of brand value – we’ve had in weeks. The six best teams in the nation are all out in action, and while each team faces an unranked opponent, five of them do so on the road.
The SEC on CBS will be a double header, with Florida No. 6 battling SEC East competitor Tennessee with the opportunity to win the division and a spot in the SEC championship game. # 1 Alabama follows with a trip to LSU as the Crimson Tide seeks to win SEC West and take revenge on the Tigers after losing last year.
Ohio State No. 4 takes on a Michigan state team that ousted Northwestern from undefeated last week, while No. 3 Clemson takes on a tough Virginia Tech team in a road night game and take on Texas # 5 A&M opens the day on an Auburn team looking for a win to end their season. # 2 Notre Dame is the aforementioned team with a home game but it’s a massive 34-point favorite against Syracuse.

Here’s the thing: Michigan State defeated Northwestern last week, but it’s not like it’s a dominant feat. Four turnovers in the Northwest certainly helped, and we mustn’t overlook the fact that Michigan State’s final touchdown came in the final game of the game when they regained a side in the end zone. I just don’t think the State of Michigan has the offensive firepower to keep up with the Buckeyes, and the State of Ohio desperately needs impressive victories. # 5 Texas A&M in Auburn (noon, ESPN)
This Aggies team is on a mission and that mission will be successful on Saturday afternoon. You will dominate the scrimmage line on either side of the ball and control the game from the start. The Texas A & M defensive front will make a living in the Auburn backfield, forcing Bo Nix to make multiple mistakes and consistently keeping the Tigers off schedule. # 6 Florida in Tennessee (3:30 p.m., CBS)

Tennessee’s ability to play the ball suggests that it may potentially incur some level of offense against a Florida defense that is not necessarily an elite. But there’s little else to suggest that the volunteers will keep it competitive. Florida’s offense is just too explosive and should provide enough cover on its defense to give up a few touchdowns without the Volunteers covering that spread. Range: Florida (-17.5) – David Cobb
# 3 Clemson at Virginia Tech (7:30 p.m., ABC)
The way the Tigers go about business is ruthless as the year approaches the college football playoff and I expect this to continue on Saturday night. I made the mistake of getting too smart and playing against Clemson last week and I won’t make that mistake again. If Virginia Tech can make this game ugly, it may be covered, but you don’t want to bet on any unusual set-up with a Clemson team getting into their best shape (again) by the end of the year. # 1 Alabama at LSU (8 p.m., CBS)

This is a massive spread, but don’t worry. Put the points and enjoy the offensive show that Alabama will be putting on on primetime Saturday night. Nick Saban’s team has averaged 48.5 points per game this season and has exceeded 40 points in seven consecutive competitions. Not only will this LSU team not be able to keep up, but it will also have difficulty reaching double-digit numbers. Range: Alabama (-28.5)
