Detroit Pistons’ CEO Search Continues to Stall as Tim Connelly Emerges as Front-Runner amid Contract Dispute

Weeks go by and the Detroit Pistons still have not made any firm decisions about who will be their next president of operations. The franchise announced that Troy Weaver would step aside to begin the search for a new front-office leader. As reported by Marc Stein in your newsletter and Shams Charania and James Edwards III in The Athleticthe favorite candidate remains Tim Connely, current president of operations of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

This would be delaying the first interviews. Connely signed a four-year contract with the Minneapolis franchise in 2022. But, due to the sale process initiated between Glen Taylor, current owner, and the duo formed by Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez, the manager reserved an escape for this summer. The aforementioned negotiation has broken down with Taylor claiming that payments did not arrive on time and declaring that the franchise was no longer for sale. Right now the case is pending arbitration and could end up in court.

The Pistons are awaiting the resolution of this matter, but they also have other candidates in the bedroom. One of them was the president of the Milwaukee Bucks, John Horst, but the Wisconsin organization has denied his request to meet with him. Chharania and Edwards suggest that the Bucks may ask for assets to allow their manager to leave. To these two names we must add Trajan Langdon (Pelicans), Dennis Lindsey (Mavericks) and Marc Eversley (Bulls). All of them attached to their respective presidents of operations.
