The biggest intrigue in the last round was which of the teams will take the tenth place and will be forced to retire to the first league.
“Metta” played 1: 2 (1: 1) with “Valmiera” in their field, keeping the place in the super league next season as well.
Raimonds Krollis scored the goal for the home team in the eighth minute, for whom it was already the 11th goal this season, climbing to the shared fifth place in the list of “snipers”. He is the most productive Latvian footballer in the Premier League championship.
Ingars Pūlis scored the answer goal in the first game in the role of bronze medalists in the 37th minute.
In the 55th minute, Kristaps Liepa nominated the head of Valmiera units.
Including the Latvian Cup, Metta had lost eight games in a row. In the last five league games, the “Mettians” had lost to “Daugavpils” (0: 1), “Tukums 2000” / TSS (1: 3), “Riga” (1: 5), RFS (0: 3) and “Ventspils” ( 0: 1).
Meanwhile, “Valmiera” had not suffered a loss since the Latvian Cup, when “Liepāja” lost 0: 2 in the semi-finals. After that, the people of Valmiera played 2: 2 with “Jelgava” and 1: 1 with “Liepāja”, but the game against “Daugavpils” ended prematurely.

Meanwhile, “Tukums 2000” / TSS closed its debut in the Premier League with a loss to the vice-champion RFS – 0: 2 (0: 1).
In the 45th minute, Jānis Ikaunieks scored an 11-meter penalty, but in the third minute of the match compensation time, he sealed the Tukums team’s last place with the goal from the game – 2: 0.
At the end of the RFS Super League, the last loss was against “Liepāja” (0: 1), but before that the teams “Daugavpils” and “Metta” were defeated with 2: 1 and 3: 0, respectively. Also in the last game RFS managed to beat the fiercest competitor “Riga” with 3: 0.
The Tukums team cannot complain about the achieved results at the end of the season either, because the victory over “Metta” (3: 1) and “Spartaku” (4: 2) allowed to feel the taste of a winning game series, but the swing was too long. This was followed by “dry” losses against “Riga” (0: 2) and “Liepāja” (0: 5).
In both previous meetings, RFS had won 3: 0.
Artūrs Zjuzins and Tomašs Šimkovičs could not help in this duel due to RFS disqualification.
Like the footballers of Tukums, “Liepāja” rocked for a long time this season for various reasons, largely without winning medals, but the finish has given way to the Liepaja players, including the Latvian Cup.
In the last match of the season, “Liepāja” destroyed “Jelgava” with 7: 0 (3: 0).
Liepāja residents answered all the questions already in the first half. Raivis Andris Jurkovskis stood out in the 19th minute, but ten minutes later – Luis Pauls Ilariu or Dodo, who with 15 “goals” caught Toluvalasi Arokodari, a former Valmiera from the Premier League “sniper” list, who is already in the German Bundesliga team “Koln”, and Jūrmala Spartaka attack leader Nemanya Belakovich. Meanwhile, after another seven minutes, Dodo scored another goal, conquering the top of the list of the best goal scorers in the Super League – 3: 0.
In the 51st and 56th minutes, Ilariu twice defeated the home goalkeeper Dmitrijs Grigorjevs, but in the 60th minute Artūrs Karašausks also scored.
In the 86th minute, Eduards Tīdenbergs scored 7: 0 for the great finish of the season in the Liepāja team with the scored goal.
“Jelgava” has been unsuccessful in the last games of the Premier League after a good “clean-up” of the line-up, because in four duels they managed to score only two goals. Both were undecided against “Valmiera”, but previously RFS lost with 0: 1, but “Ventspils” with 0: 5. The last game also saw a “dry” defeat – 0: 7 against “Spartak”.
The Kurzeme club experienced its last failure in the Premier League at the beginning of November against “Spartak” (0: 1), but in the next game they managed to win “Ventspils” with 1: 0, thus winning the Latvian Cup. After that, the people of Liepaja won the RFS with 1: 0, played a draw 1: 1 against “Valmiera”, as well as defeated Tukums – 5: 0.
In mutual duels, “Liepāja” had won both matches this season. In the first meeting, the people of Kurzeme won with 5: 1, but in the second – with 3: 1.
Finally, “Daugavpils” gave way to Jurmala “Spartak” at home with 1: 3 (1: 1).
The match started stormy, because already in the first minute Raivis Ķiršs put the home team in the lead. In the 44th minute, the guests equalized the result with Leon Šipoš.
During the break, the guests made three shifts, and in the 49th minute they were nominated by Quwado Assamoa – 2: 1.
The final result of the game five minutes after going to the pitch for a substitution in the 89th minute was scored by the “Spartan” Chikezi Nvaoris – 3: 1.
Daugavpils celebrated their last victory on October 17, when “Metta” won 1-0. Later, the team gave up 0: 2 and 1: 2 to “Riga” and RFS, but later managed to score a point against “Ventspils”, playing a draw 0: 0. In the last match against “Valmiera”, the Latgale team could not spend all 90 minutes, because only six of the eight players on the field were available. The team was later awarded a technical loss with 0: 3. On Sunday, the people of Daugavpils could start the game in full.
Spartak had won three games in the last five games. After losing in the quarterfinals of the Latvian Cup against “Liepāja” (1: 3), “Valmiera” was defeated with 1: 0, but later an unexpected failure was experienced against the Tukums unit (2: 4). In the last two duels, the goal of “Spartaka” has not been taken, because “Liepāja” was defeated with 1: 0, but “Jelgava” was destroyed with 7: 0.
Both teams have played two games this season. In the first “Spartaks” won with 2: 0, but the answer match ended in a draw 3: 3.
Today, “Riga” and “Ventspils” clubs also planned to go to the field, but the residents of Riga announced on Saturday that Covid-19 will not play due to the situation. “Riga” is unable to complete the line-up after the Covid-19 outbreak, as most footballers have not yet recovered from the illness.
It has already been reported that the board of the Latvian Football Federation (LFF) decided at its meeting on Friday to cancel the playoffs for the place in the “Optibet” football super league. This way, the ninth-place team will not have to avoid rematches.
The first place in the tournament table after 27 rounds with 69 points was won by “Riga”, which was three points ahead of RFS. “Valmiera” won bronze medals with 47 points, but “Ventspils” won 44 points.
“Liepāja” ranked behind the first four with 42 points, which, like the top three of the leading teams, won the right to represent the country next season in one of the European Cup competitions. Jūrmala “Spartaks” finished with 40 points, 22 points are for “Jelgava”, 20 “Daugavpils”, 16 “Metta” team, but 14 – “Tukums 2000” / TSS for footballers.
This season, ten teams started in the Super League, which is one more than last year and two more than yesterday. Also this season, the legionnaires’ limit in the Premier League was raised to eight players. This means that there must be at least three players trained in Latvia on the field at the same time. Last year, the limit was five foreign players.
As in many other countries, after the coronavirus pause in the regulations of the Premier League championship in the 2020 season, the number of permitted substitutions was increased from three to five.
Due to a three-month forced break, three were taken instead of four planned laps this season.
Last year, “Riga” was crowned Latvian champion, but RFS won its first trophy in the history of the club, which won the national cup.
