Masters: Medvedev still beats Zverev and unlocks his counter

A week after his success for the title in Paris, Daniil Medvedev again dominated Alexander Zverev (6-3, 6-4), Monday for the debut of the two men in this Masters 2020.

Daniil Medvedev did it again! Winner of Alexander Zverev (5-7, 6-4, 6-1), eight days earlier in the final of the Rolex Paris Masters to win his eighth singles title of his young career, the third in a Masters 1000, the Russian beat the German again (6-3, 6-4, 1h27 of play), Monday at the O2 Arena in London, this time during the Masters, which saw the two men make their debut in this 2020 edition on this occasion, group Tokyo 1970. The winner of the AccorArena has thus unlocked his counter in the competition. Last year, for his very first participation, the protégé of French trainer Gilles Cervara, very happy Monday after the match point for his foal’s new success against Zverev, had left the capital of the United Kingdom in the first round after … three defeats. On Monday, he won his first victory and at the same time turned his back on this 2019 fiasco, showing a lot of seriousness against the sacred German in London two years ago.

This time Zverev did not exist …

And if, in Paris, the world number 7 had mistreated the Russian for a long time, Zverev even taking a set (the first) from him before collapsing, it did not happen on Monday. Medvedev, certainly back to his best level at the end of the season, and particularly confusing in terms of confidence (he allowed himself a serve with a spoon … winning at the end of the match) and mental, n ‘ has never wavered. More exactly, he gave up his throw-in from the start, but he immediately put it back together and then constantly undermined a Zverev betrayed by his service and at times completely confused by the marathon exchanges and the rhythm of blows that the Russian constantly imposed on him, without mercy. A very good demonstration once again from the world number 4, perfectly launched in this Masters. Novak Djokovic, who will most likely play first place in Medvedev is warned.
