Liverpool lineup against Brighton – Sadio Mane rested as midfield received a big boost

Sadio Mane was resting when Jordan Henderson returned

Paul Gorst: So on to the dreaded start on Saturday afternoon for Liverpool.

No less on the south coast. Jürgen Klopp was very vocal towards Wednesday evening and Saturday morning, but currently there is little he can do.

At least he knows three points in Brighton will bring his team back to the top of the Premier League.

Alisson Becker starts for the 100th time as a goalkeeper in Liverpool.

James Milner will return to the Back Four alongside Fabinho, Joel Matip and Andy Robertson.

In midfield, Curtis Jones is keeping his place, as is Gini Wijnaldum with a recall for Jordan Henderson after his return to training this week.

Above I will give Sadio Mane a break and name Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino as my top three.

My team (4-3-3): Alisson; Milner, Matip, Fabinho, Robertson; Milner, Wijnaldum, Jones; Jota, Salah, Firmino.

The captain begins when Nat Phillips nods again

Ian Doyle: Maybe, just maybe, Liverpool have an extra player for tonight’s game in Brighton.

Jordan Henderson was back in team training on Thursday – or at least partially – and will be pushing for a commitment on the south coast.

A leap in confidence means that the skipper can start in a midfield, which, as is common nowadays, also includes Gini Wijnaldum and Curtis Jones.

However, the rest of the team sees a lot of changes.

Out goes the entire back four that played against Atalanta. Joel Matip shouldn’t get three starts in a week yet, and Fabinho can replace him.

Besides the center-back, the Brighton threat in set pieces means Nat Phillips can have a second start in the Premier League.

Andy Robertson returns as a left-back, James Milner as a right-back.

Up front, it’s time for Sadio Mane to rest. He’s been looking exhausted lately.

Diogo Jota can start on the left, Roberto Firmino in the middle and Mohamed Salah on the right.

My team (4-3-3): Alisson; Milner, Phillips, Fabinho, Robertson; Henderson, Wijnaldum, Jones; Salah, Firmino, Jota.

Roberto Firmino can wreak havoc with the first three in front of him

Peter Harris: Alisson between the sticks for a striking look, of course.

James Milner kicks in on the right back while Andy Robertson returns to the starting XI while Joel Matip and Fabinho continue their partnership in the center of defense.

The time has come for Jordan Henderson’s much-needed return to midfield. He can help his team shake off the Atalanta result and make sure they have enough fire to return to Merseyside with all three points.

Next to the captain in a midfield duo is Gini Wijnaldum – we’ll just know how much we really miss him when he’s gone.

Roberto Firmino was inconspicuously impressive against Leicester at times, not only because of his well-hit and long-standing header.

On a few occasions, he seemed to fall back a little to become an extra man in midfield. He was able to deliver a goal when he passed out, hold the game up for the strikers to take a run and trigger them with a key pass.

It’s a role he can repeat against Brighton with Salah, Mane and Jota in front of him – and maybe we will soon discuss how the number 9 is actually a 10.

My team: (4-2-1-3): Alisson; Milner, Fabinho, Matip, Robertson; Henderson, Wijnaldum; Firmino; Iota, mane, salah.
