Joan Rosell rules out running in Barça’s elections

Joan Rosell will not run in the Barça presidential elections, scheduled for January 24, 2021. The former president of the CEOE (2010-2018) and of Foment del Treball (1995-2011) will finally not take the step to to govern the Barça club, as reported this afternoon by the program No compromises, from Ràdio Kanal Barcelona. Rosell, like Jordi Roche, had to represent a moderate third way in relation to the two favorite theorists to win the elections, Joan Laporta and Víctor Font.

Neither Rosell nor Roche will fight for the chair that Josep Maria Bartomeu has occupied in the last five years because they have many reservations about the delicate economic situation that Barça is dragging after the management of the last meeting, aggravated by the coronavirus pandemic. In fact, a few days ago the management committee of Carles Tusquets reached an agreement with the players to defer 172 million of their short-term salary, given the financial difficulty that has caused, among other things, having to play the games in door closed since March.

Nine aspirants

Therefore, once Joan Laporta announced this Monday that he is running in the Barça elections, the total number of candidates rises to nine when there are two months left badly – with the Christmas holidays – in the middle so that the ballot boxes can be put in the Camp We. The pre-candidates, who will have to collect more than 2,000 physical supports to become full-fledged candidates, are Laporta himself, Víctor Font, Toni Freixa, Emili Rousaud, Agustí Benedito, Xavi Vilajoana, Jordi Farré, Pere Riera and Lluís Fernández Alà.
