In a bizarre incident at a football match in Scotland, an artificial intelligence (AI) camera continuously tracked a bald referee who mistook him for the ball. A video of the hilarious gaffe that is now going viral and amusing internet users online.
The unprecedented event that took place at the Caledonian Stadium during a game between Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Ayr United in Inverness in the distant Scottish Highlands got everyone talking online about how technology once again caught the game wrong. The commentator repeatedly apologized when the camera kept mistaking the ball for the linesman’s head.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Inverness Club had announced its decision not to use human cameramen and instead rely on an automated camera system to follow the action. However, the AI camera was unable to distinguish between the ball and the linesman’s bald head as the umpire’s head glistened in the glorious Scottish sun in the late afternoon.

Though the game ended in a 1-1 draw, it was more than the effort of the team, the gaffe, that caught all the attention online. When many began tagging the camera company to complain and demand responses, a spokesman said in a tweet: “We are aware of the linesman problem and are already working on improving it for the next game.
