Manchester United processa Football Manager – Inglaterra

At issue is the alleged misuse of the club name

Manchester United announced on Friday its intention to sue the creators of the renowned video game Football Manager, alleging the misuse of the club’s name over the various titles in the series, one of the most successful in the history of computer games. In addition to this accusation, the red devils also claim that Sega and Sports Interactive (SI) broke the laws by not using the official club symbol in the game, replacing it with a red logo with a white stripe.

In response, Sega and SI say that the use of the club’s name is a “legitimate reference to Manchester United in the context of football”, recalling that over several years, since 1992, its use has been made “without any complaint by the club “. Incidentally, Sega and SI go further and remember that “copies of the game have been sent to various employees and players of the club for several years and that there have been many compliments and positive comments made by them.” On the other hand, the two companies also remind that Manchester United itself will have repeatedly asked for access to the game’s database, using it for the purposes of ‘scout’ and research.

The lawsuit, it should be noted, is in court and comes days after the club’s liability data, which rose 141 million euros in the last 12 months, to the current 480 million, have been known.
