Al-Hilal has set its sights on the arrival of Rafael Leão, O Jogo claims. The Portuguese sports newspaper wrote on Thursday morning that the attacker’s father will travel to Saudi Arabia at short notice to discuss a transfer.

Nothing seems unthinkable for the wealthy Al-Hilal. Leão, who has a release clause of 175 million euros since his contract extension with AC Milan last summer, is seen as the man who can burst the market in 2024/25.

The attacker, one of Portugal’s eye-catchers during the upcoming European Championship, is seen as a target for many European superpowers. Agent Jorge Mendes has reportedly already been in contact with Real Madrid and FC Barcelona and may soon travel to Saudi Arabia.

Leão is seen as a player who should give a new upgrade to the growth and fame of the Saudi league. In the Saudi Professional League he can meet another star and valued compatriot in Cristiano Ronaldo.

O Jogo writes that negotiations are taking place and progress could be made by the end of this week. Leão’s father, António Leão, reportedly takes over the operation with his son’s knowledge.

Mário Rui, a Portuguese intermediary with considerable power within Saudi football, is seen as the man who can pull off the deal. He previously played an important role in the transfers of Neymar and Otávio.

Another important lynchpin in the story is Jorge Jesus. The Al-Hilal coach was responsible for Leão’s debut with Sporting Portugal. After spending ten years in the youth academy, he made his debut in the main squad of the Portuguese top club in 2018.

Leão’s arrival should ensure that Al-Hilal rises to unprecedented heights in Saudi Arabia and beyond. For example, the club has committed to winning the World Cup for club teams in 2025. Al-Hilal is the reigning national champion. The club has a twelve-point lead over Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr.

O Jogo speaks of an ‘unprecedented operation’ that should achieve a ‘bombastic effect’ because of the amount, the salary and the possibility of attracting a relatively young player for a competition like the one in Saudi Arabia.

It is not expected that Al-Hilal will meet the clause of 175 million euros, but an initial offer of at least 100 million euros is taken into account. Leão is under contract with AC Milan until mid-2028.
