Lucien Favre and the new trait of Dortmund

That must hurt: Mats Hummels takes it.

Lucien Favre has always been a coach with slightly different priorities. But now it becomes clear which strategy the Dortmund coach is now increasingly demanding of his players.

Dhe professional football as an experience for a passionate audience has suffered serious damage with the many games in front of empty stands that currently somehow have to be handled. Borussia Mönchengladbach’s 2-2 draw against Real Madrid on Tuesday would have left long-lasting memories among the people in a raging stadium. And BVB’s 2-0 win against Zenit St. Petersburg on Wednesday would have been quickly forgotten.

However, the audience reactions to this largely upright performance of BVB would have been extremely interesting. The entertainment value of the evening remained modest for 90 minutes, and many people might have whistled at some point. Even Lucien Favre saw so much need for improvement that after the final whistle some observers had the impression that they had never seen the coach so committed on the sidelines.
