FC St. Pauli 2-2 in the Hamburg Derby against HSV in the 2nd Bundesliga

TOrjäger Simon Terodde saved Hamburger SV from another derby defeat against FC St. Pauli. After a turbulent final phase, the duel between the two Hamburg rivals ended 2: 2 (1: 1) on Friday evening. The 32-year-old Terodde achieved the early lead (12th) and the late equalizer (84th) for the leaders of the second Bundesliga. After two derby victories last season, outsider St. Pauli scored 1-1 again with Rodrigo Zalazar (35th) and 2-1 with Simon Makienok (82nd). The hope for another surprise only lasted 95 seconds.

“In the end, the joy of equalizing prevails, even if we would have liked to win the derby,” said Terodde after the game in a Sky interview. “Aaron Hunt joked on the pitch that I could have scored four or five goals today. But maybe it will work out against Kiel next week. “

With the first loss of points this season, HSV failed to set a club record that was more than 40 years old: the last time they had six wins in a row was in the championship season 1978/79. But also at FC St. Pauli they mourned the missed victory. “I would have liked to have won today. But as a football fan you have to say: That was a good and awesome derby, ”said captain Marvin Knoll.

The 104th city duel between the two Hamburg rivals took place for the first time under the conditions of a pandemic. For this reason, only 1000 spectators, including no guest fans of FC St. Pauli, were allowed into the Volksparkstadion. The police spoke in advance of the supposedly “quietest derby of all time”.

In terms of football it was one of the better ones. Already in the sixth minute, the underdog from Millerntor had a first big chance through his 2.01 meter tall Danish center forward Makienok. However, HSV took the lead through its striker Terodde. Only seven minutes later, the 32-year-old hit the post again with his head (19th). HSV was the much better team in this phase, the equalization by Zalazar came as a surprise.

Even after the break, the favorite took revenge when Terodde missed two good opportunities in the 60th and 65th minutes. St. Pauli withdrew a little further than in the first half, but kept this “city championship” exciting at all times. The HSV seemed to lose control of this derby with increasing duration, but hit back just after the supposed knockout in the 82nd minute. Terodde scored against no other opponent more often in his career than against FC St. Pauli. His goals for the season seven and eight were the ninth and tenth career goals against the Kiezkicker on Friday evening.

Fortuna Düsseldorf and coach Uwe Rösler, meanwhile, achieved the longed-for second victory after the false start on matchday six. On Friday evening, the relegated won against 1. FC Heidenheim 1-0 (1-0). Marcel Sobottka scored the winning goal (33rd minute) for the decimated Rhinelander against last year’s third. For the previously criticized Rösler, it was only the fourth win in the 21st league game as Fortuna coach. After three games without a win in a row, the Rhinelander first moved into midfield with seven points from six games.

Heidenheim, however, remains with five counters in the table cellar. Coach Frank Schmidt’s team, which was particularly disappointing in the first half, remained without a win for the fifth time in a row. The weakened replacement Fortuna was clearly defining the game in the first half. Without twelve injured, suspended or coronavirus players, she only came under pressure after the move. The Düsseldorfers then mostly defended confidently and deservedly won in the end.
