Exmouth Town Football Club member tests positive for coronavirus

Exmouth Town FC’s next two games have been postponed after a squad member tested positive for coronavirus.

The Toolstation Western League Premier Division’s meeting with Plymouth Parkway on Wednesday night, as well as the FA Vase tie on Saturday in Sherborne Town, have been canceled following the positive COVID-19 test.

The city has been instructed by the Western League to postpone the two games while a decision is made on next Wednesday’s league game with Tavistock in the near future.

A spokesman for the club said: “ As a result of a positive COVID 19 test on the Exmouth Town roster, we notified the Western League and the FA.

” The Western League has advised that we have to postpone the upcoming games against Plymouth Parkway and Sherbourne Town.

” A decision regarding the Tavistock game will be made shortly

” The squad was informed and instructed to take suitable measures to self-isolate and to seek medical advice if symptoms occur.

“We will also be in contact with Bradford Town to inform them of the situation.”

Bob Chard, Exmouth Town Football Club’s COVID Manager, said: “We are still working on the effects of this positive COVID test, but the players and staff involved on Saturday were the first to be notified.

“We are in contact with all relevant football authorities and of course the health and safety of our players, management and everyone associated with Exmouth Town is our top priority.”

After beating Bradford Town 6-1 on Saturday, The Town are currently in third place in the Premier Station of the Toolstation Western League – a game the squad was involved in.

While Western League games are expected to be rearranged later in the season, the FA Cup precedent this year means Exmouth will likely lose its connection with Sherborne in the FA Vase.
