‘Cabinet plans leak out: amateur football will be restricted’

The cabinet will temporarily suspend amateur football in the Netherlands. The Hague sources have confirmed this in conversation with the NOS. Above the age of eighteen, group sports are no longer allowed from Tuesday.

This concerns sports where no one and a half meters distance can be kept, so the new measures also affect the football world. An exception is made for professional sports, reports de WE. By stopping the competitions, travel movements are limited: that is one of the government’s main objectives with the new measures.

Eric Gudde, director of professional football of the KNVB, previously indicated that he would find it ridiculous if professional football were to be shut down again. “It is clear that the infections are increasing and that tough measures must follow, but then you have to put your finger on the sore spot and that is certainly not football”, he said.

Rutte will announce all new measures at a press conference on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. The intention is to also reduce the maximum group size. A maximum of thirty people may be present inside, while outside four people may come together at the same time.
