Badminton: Three first places for the TV Refrath

For the best U11 players in Germany, TV Refrath organized the first national badminton tournament since February on the weekend. Even the best U13s came to the Bergisches Land to show their skills. The hygiene concept was complex, but it was worth it for the club.

The TV Refrath dared to organize this ranking list with a very strict hygiene concept: The hall was consistently well ventilated, mouth and nose covers had to be worn in the stands during the entire tournament and the number of carers was limited in advance.

Finally, the check-in and check-out of participants was easily controlled via a QR code. 149 players from 75 clubs were able to take part in the tournament over three days and several blocks and there were never more than 64 players in the hall at the same time.

Tournament director Heinz Kelzenberg reports: “The preparation of the tournament was a lot of work, but it paid off. Supervisors and participants had been fully informed beforehand and were extremely disciplined in the hall, so that during the entire three days I always had the feeling that I had made the right decision to hold the tournament ”.

From a sporting point of view, only a few of the top players were missing: Of the top 10 of the U11 and U13 individual rankings, 34 of 40 players were at the start in Refrath. In U11, Alexia Nedelcu (TSV Wolfstein) and Ian Baumann (ASV Landau) were the best of the best on Sunday.

Naman Kundi (TSV Neubiberg / Ottobrunn) / Fabian Karmann (SuS Obere Saar) were ahead in the boys ‘doubles, while Alexia Nedelcu and Ailin Zheng (TSV 1846 Nürnberg) won her second title in the girls’ doubles.

Leon Kaschura (Union Lüdinghausen) was able to prevail twice in the final among the “older ones”, namely in the boys ‘singles and in the boys’ doubles with his club colleague Linus Emmerich.

Triple winner Gloria Poluektov

“Player of the tournament” with three first places was the local hero Gloria Poluektov from TV Refrath. She won singles without losing a set and was unbeatable in doubles and mixed with her teammates Nina Steffes and Fynn Ohliger this weekend.
