Cris Collinsworth’s support for NFL player protests has met with mixed reactions

NBC broadcaster Cris Collinsworth angered fans as he watched the NFL season opener between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Houston Texans.

Ahead of kickoff, Collinsworth delivered a message about the NFL’s social justice initiatives and the players protesting ahead of the national anthem.

NFL FANS APPEAR TO BOO CHEFS, TEXANS PLAYERS DURING THE UNIT MOMENT BEFORE PLAYING STARTS

“I feel like I have to start by saying that I support these players 100%, 100%. What they are trying to do is bring positive change to this country which, frankly, is long overdue. Let’s leave that aside and organize a football match, ”he said.

The message didn’t resonate with everyone, however.

THE CHIEFS TAKE ON THE FIELD FOR THE NATIONAL ANTHERM, “RAISE EACH VOICE AND SING”; TEXANS STAY IN THE LOCKER ROOM

The comments from the longtime NFL announcer came after the Chiefs united during the playing of the black national anthem. The team was also on the pitch for “The Star-Spangled Banner” in which most of the players locked their arms or put their hands over their hearts. At least one player knelt down and put a fist in the air. The Texans weren’t out for the song.

The Chiefs and Texans players then joined in midfield ahead of the draw. Fans appeared to boo the protest.

The protests were part of the league’s efforts to promote social justice issues. The league painted “End Racism” in the end zone.
