Tania Cagnotto is pregnant and retires: “I choose the family”

Tania Cagnotto announced the withdrawal from competitions and revealed she was pregnant. The Italian champion, former mother of Maya, born in January 2018, wrote a long post on Instagram: “I know that many of you wanted to see me once again on the trampoline and I’m sorry to have disappointed you, but in this lockdown, as has happened to so many others, I had time to reflect and understand what was most important to me. I no longer had that willpower (which guided me for 20 years) to commit and sacrifice myself the way an Olympics requires it! I have always honored all the Olympics and I couldn’t not do it this time too! ».

Rio 2016 Olympics: Tania Cagnotto and Francesca Dallapé win silver and make history

Then in the same message the sportswoman from Bolzano – who had resumed training and competing for Tokyo, then being held back by the coronavirus pandemic and the postponement of (at least) the Games for a year, thanks her historic synchro partner Francesca Dallapé, with which he conquered the silver medal in Rio 2016: “Thank you Francesca for convincing me to face this crazy challenge and making me dream of something big like a mothers Olympics … And once again thanks to all of you, who have changed my mind … you who you gave the strength to restart the machine … you who have always supported me with messages of esteem and affection! I promise you that I will make you participate in my life again and in any case this is just a goodbye to the world of diving because I believe I can still give something in another capacity … (And then Maya will need a coach) ».

The two were obviously absent from the diving festival at the Lido di Bolzano which began last August 5, it was thought because it was not a qualifying event for the Summer 2021 Games.
