Sources – Domantas Sabonis is unlikely to join the Pacers roster in the foreseeable future

Despite reentering the NBA bubble to begin quarantine this weekend, Domantas Sabonis, the Indiana Pacers’ 7-foot All-Star, is not expected to be available to rejoin the active roster in the near future, sources told ESPN on Saturday.

Sabonis left the Orlando campus on July 17 to rehabilitate plantar fasciitis in his left foot. Sources told ESPN that Sabonis is not believed to have been able to participate in basketball activities during that time.

Pacers coach Nate McMillan confirmed Saturday that Sabonis was returning to campus and sources told ESPN he will have to pass four consecutive days of coronavirus testing, starting Sunday.

“He’s going to be quarantined for a few days, so even if he’s here, it’ll be a few days before we can see him,” McMillan told Fox Sports Indiana.

The Pacers are behind the Miami Heat 2-0 in an Eastern Conference playoff series in the first round. Game 3 is played on Saturday afternoon.

Sabonis, 24, was chosen for his first NBA All-Star Game this season. He has signed a $ 75 million four-year contract extension that will begin with the start of next season.

He has averaged 18.5 points, 12.4 rebounds and five assists this season for Indiana.
