Practice Three: CB Chiefs Alex Brown tear up the ACL; probably out of season

The Kansas City Chiefs returned to the training ground on Sunday. This was the third of 14 padded workouts they will perform during training camp at the team’s field facilities at Truman Sports Complex.

After practice, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid confirmed previous reports that reserve cornerback Alex Brown suffered an ACL tear. The promising second-year turn – which started on last season’s practice squad but made it to the active roster through the Super Bowl – will likely miss the season. Reid also said rookie cornerback Lavert Hill missed practice due to hamstring strain.

Left tackle Eric Fisher left the training ground with an injury. Mike Remmers took his place in the first team (via Athletic). Reid said Fisher is now in concussion protocol.

Wide receiver Sammy Watkins missed practice; Reid reported that his groin was strained. Defensive tackle Chris Jones, cornerback Antonio Hamilton and tight end Deon Yelder – all also treating groin injuries – missed another day of training. Wide receiver Byron Pringle missed practice again with a knee injury. Defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi missed a third day of training. Reid revealed he had an ankle injury.

Despite being dressed, rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire had no reps in Sunday’s session. Reid said he was just dehydrated so they held him back. Darrel Williams replaced the running back with the first team (via ESPN).

Cornerback BoPete Keyes as sure the field – although it remains officially on the list of people physically incapable of performing (via Athletic). Safety Juan Thornhill and offensive lineman Martinas Rankin are also still on PUP. Neither practiced on Sunday.

Linebacker Darius Harris had another excused absence from practice.
