Novak Djokovic grants 12 million Serbian dinars for the construction of schools

Novak Djokovic is known for his many records on the tennis court. He has 17 Grand Slam titles and 53 ATP single titles under his name. Unsurprisingly, Djokovic is the leader of the Open era when it comes to cash prizes won. In addition to his admirable achievements in sport, he also has a heart of gold. He lingers in various philanthropic acts with the Novak Djokovic Foundation.

Djokovic and his wife started the organization in 2012 and have been involved in various humanitarian actions in Serbia. It mainly works for better preschool education of Serbian children. The Foundation recently donated 12 million Serbian dinars for the construction and reconstruction of nursery schools in Serbia.

A step towards better education

According to the Serbian publication Politika, the Foundation donated half of the requested 24 million dinars to the municipality of Trstenik. This is for the reconstruction of the “Pearls” preschool in Stopanje. Once completed, it will provide 75 children with high-quality education.

Marko Kovacevic, project manager of the Novak Djokovic Foundation, was present when they inaugurated the project.

“Unfortunately, as many as 657 children living in the Trstenik area do not have the opportunity to attend kindergarten, which is why there is a great need in this local community to expand the capacity of the preschool institution.”

Of the 12 million donated by the Novak foundation, 10 million will be used for all necessary structural works. The remaining two million will go to equip the new kindergarten.
The President of the Municipality of Trstenik, Aleksandar Ćirić, expressed his gratitude to the Foundation and its founders.

“We want to express our gratitude and pride for all that Novak and Jelena Djokovic and the Foundation have done for our country, and what they will do for Trstenik in the coming period, and this will be one more reason for us to continue investing in creating better conditions for the younger generations “.

Throughout this pandemic, the Foundation has made regular donations. In May, he donated $ 1 million worth of medical equipment to a Serbian hospital. A couple of weeks ago, Djokovic joined businessman Miodrag Kostic for a great cause. The two financed a private jet for Sofia Markuljevic’s medical treatment. She was flown to the United States to be treated for her spinal muscular atrophy.
