No football talk this season in light of police shootings

NASHVILLE, Tennessee – Tennessee Titans safety Kenny Vaccaro began his virtual press conference by informing the media that he is ending all talk about football this season.

Vaccaro believes it is only appropriate to discuss social injustice, systemic oppression, racism, and police brutality in light of recent events involving the shooting of Jacob Blake by police in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

“I’m really not going to talk about football when I get to these meetings in light of recent events that have happened across the country. For me and my platform, my duty is to talk about what is going on, and that “That’s just my position. I’m just not going to talk about football this year,” Vaccaro said.

It comes a day after the Titans team decided not to train, instead taking the time to discuss how they can move forward to create change after the latest police shootout of a black man. Coach Mike Vrabel said one of the main reasons the team had not trained was because the Titans’ frustration with the continuing shootouts prompted the team to find ways to bring about the change. .

Vaccaro has given a prelude to what the Titans players plan to do in the future.

“I don’t think refraining from a practice is going to stop the police from killing black men. The next step is to get into the communities. We’re going to do something that is not just a hashtag, not just a black square that people posted on Instagram. and I thought that meant something. We’re not going to make it a movement, we’re going to make it a lifestyle, “Vaccaro said.

Their goal is to show the outside world how people should be treated. One of the ideas that came out of the conversations when they weren’t practicing Thursday was to create a “Zoom with a Titan” opportunity for Middle Tennessee fans to talk to the players.
