Jeff Badall may not be a Jackson Golf Hall of Famer, but he certainly picked a great time to start building his resume for a future clubhouse spot.
The Jackson resident scored a playoff win over Dave Page on Sunday to claim the 2020 Jackson Masters title at the Grande Golf Club. Badall sank a 10-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole of the playoffs to clinch his first major title in Jackson Golf Tour.
Badall fired a 70 during Saturday’s opening round to lead the field, but a 73 on Sunday gave Page enough room to return to the chase. The two golfers eventually finished the 36-hole tournament tied at 143 to push the competition extra.
The two golfers reached the Grande’s # 1 hole, a 401-yard par four, with both players playing for position. Page missed his first birdie attempt for the hole, leaving the door open for Badall, who calmly sank the shot for victory.
Leslie High School’s Risner Cannon finished third overall with a 144 for the weekend after winning the medal at the RW Mercer Jackson Junio Golf Tour event at Arbor Hills Golf Club on Friday. Risner recorded a 3 under par 69 on Sunday to score the best round of the weekend. Mark Kurzynowski finished fourth with a 145, while Scott Denig was fifth with 146.
The next scheduled Jackson Golf Tour event is Jackson Stableford on August 22 at Ella Sharp Park Golf Course. For more information on the event or to register online, visit the championship website by clicking here.
